Time for some target practice
When you're sizing up the green with an iron in-hand, what kind of shot do you go for?

If you’re faced with a tricky approach shot, are you a risk-taker? Or do you prefer to play it safe? Risk-reward is the eternal question when it comes to how you’ll play your shot.
It can be one of the best feelings in golf to size up an approach, strike it well, and feel the satisfaction of having your shot come to nestle close to the pin. But it can also be instantly disheartening to go for the hole only to be caught in a pesky hazard.
However you’re used to playing, the changing of the seasons might have just made up your mind for you…
Preparing for winter golf

We’ve just had a glorious summer with plenty of hot sunny days spent on the golf course. During this time, the courses have been in immaculate condition, but the winter brings with it certain challenges that go beyond there being less natural daylight.
The winter air is dense and rich with moisture, much more so than that of the summer months. This most notably causes there to be more resistance as the ball travels through the air, causing it to not fly as far.
While this means the ball doesn’t bump and run as much, it means you can essentially go for the flag with the knowledge that your ball is going to sit down straight away rather than bounce off the green. This makes it a whole lot more exciting when you pull off a really good approach shot, and have the satisfaction of watching your ball sit down pleasantly a matter of feet away from the hole.
Another thing to consider therefore, is that if you’ve been used to hitting bump-and-run shots in the warmer weather, you’ll need to adjust your strategy as this method will have you falling short of the green in the winter.
Practice makes perfect

The two key contributors to playing better golf are of course, practice, but foremostly making sure you’re playing with the right equipment in the first place.

Callaway's excellent golf irons
When it comes to better striking your approach shots, most golfers will benefit from a club that offers greater forgiveness and accuracy. If this sounds like you, you’ll hugely benefit from adding the Elyte golf irons to your bag.

An excellent club that most golfers will get on well with, the standard Elyte iron has been engineered to offer a full-body approach to sound and feel, and it certainly feels solid when you strike it. Offering fast ball speeds on all strike and a tight downrange dispersion, this model offers phenomenal consistency and control on approach shots.
If you struggle with gaining height on your strikes, Callaway has your problems taken care of with their Elyte HL irons. HL stands for High Launch, and this iron has been fitted with an AI-optimised face that has been designed to not only increase launch angle but improve stability too. Paired with a cutting-edge sole design that helps you cut through the ball rather than dig into the turf, this is an ideal club for the novice golfer.

If you’re a skilled player looking for tour-level feel and performance, you’ll love swinging the Apex Ai200 iron. This club features strategically positioned weighting to give you an optical CG position for greater launch, and the dynamic sole design makes striking through the ball a breeze whatever surface you’re playing on. It goes without saying that this club is flawlessly crafted and looks fantastic from every angle.
While the Ai200 has a hollow body design, the Ai300 benefits from a cavity back to aid consistency while the forged face cup delivers exceptional distance. This club is excellent if you’re an adapt player wanting to hone your skills when striking into the greens.
